Located in the popular Downtown movie theater plaza (on the corner of Orange Ave and Church Street), Bento Café has been a staple dining destination since Feb 2008. “Bento” is very popular for lunch during the week and as a pre – hit the town destination on Friday and Saturday Night. We met with the manager, Tammy Laney, who has been at this Bento location since (almost) Day 1. She is awesome and is full of smiles even during a hectic lunch rush.

When choosing a sushi destination (or making one your go to at all times) we know what you concentrate on: quality, service, ambiance, and even though you may or may not want to admit it, PRICE!. The vibe is great; modern, not decked out in the classic “Asian” décor. The food (both sushi and kitchen selection) is diverse and rates from good to great as well as being consistent. Grabbing sushi downtown may sound expensive but Bento Café has great prices and discounted parking in the connected parking garage.

We picked a few things on the menu to try and here is what we have to say about them:

Candy Roll & Surf N Kawaii

The Candy Roll may be my new favorite sushi roll ( previous title held by the Rainbow Roll). It is a large California Roll topped with fresh sashimi, eel sauce, and wasabi tobiko. The Surf N Kawaii was good although the lettuce threw me off (pictured above).

Spicy Tuna Don

Looking for a fast and healthy lunch or dinner? Try the Tuna Don. A generous portion of Yellow Fin Tuna on a bed of white or brown rice accompanied with  masago, sea weed salad, and spicy mayo with avocado and cucumber slices. DELICIOUS! (pictured above)

Krab Wontons

This classic is done really well at Bento. Fried won tons stuffed with cream cheese , scallions, and krab served w sweet chili sauce. (pictured above)

Curry Katsu Chicken Rice Bowl

This dish was recommended by Tammy and is her favorite non sushi dish on the menu. It was great and something I would have probably always looked over. The panko fried chicken was delicious. It was served with bok choy and spicy red curry sauce on a bed of white or brown rice. (pictured above)

They say today is the first day of the rest of your life...Not sure who "they" are but I guess the idea is what got me to start this. Whats2Hot started as a nightclub photography company and over the past two years has grown into a genuine source for information on events/concerts, new restaurants/bars reviews, and of course as Orlando's most recognized Facebook default photo provider. It's been a long road... not to long to complain but it hasn't been an easy ride. Thanks for tagging along!
